Still ok financially, but I still need something that makes MUCH less noise on the highway and has space. I'm looking at Fiat 500 sports right now. 2012s are quite cheap and I found one that comes with brand new tires and winter tires too for cheap. I would like to stretch it to a 2013 with a turbo but it's still to see. What do you think of them? Any other cars that I shall look at?

2012-Ish Jetta, Just an example down there. But they are cheap, reliable and look pretty good with minimal effort.

Winter tires will be helpful, for sure. I have a 2012 Fiat 500 Sport, and the stock tires are not good in the snow. I do love it, though. I got mine earlier this year. It had 14k on it and was only $12k. And now that my schedule at work changed just enough to keep me out of both rush hours, I'm getting over 40 mpg regularly.

I wanted to ask you something about it. I test drove one lately and I feel that the clutch is lifeless...same for the steering. It has a "Vague" feel when you start turning it. Is it because I didn't press the Sport button?

You forgot it's also very slow. Might not be a problem if their commute is always in traffic, but it is not going to excite anyone who enjoys speed.

GODDAMN cars are expensive up in Canuckistan! My 2011 is only worth $14k at most... however that car would probably be fine (as long as you got some bigger wheels, bleh those stock ones are puny!)

My understanding is that the Sport button will make the steering heavier. I've never used it, though. The steering seems good to me, but my last vehicle was a base Ford Ranger so after that, most cars would seem like a major improvement. The clutch in my Fiat is light, but I wouldn't say it's vague. Have you driven more than one of them?

I have to do my part in recommending a Chevy Sonic. You could probably get a 2012 LT or LTZ with the 1.4T for cheap, then get a $200 tune for Abarth like power.

Also I'd recommend a 2010 or newer Kia Forte. Surprisingly good cars, and they're Kia's so they've depreciated nicely. For more space look at a Soul

I've seen leftover 2012 Fiat 500 Pop's in Edmonton for $10,700.00 with only 60km's on them(there was 2 to choose from a black and a light brown). that price was ridiculously low. at the time I was driving a Challenger SRT8 so I couldn't afford it but now I would love to have bought one. this was last year tho.

The Fiat has no space but is really a fun car to drive and really economical I still think of getting one for the wife eventually.

You can probably get an Abarth in your budget. There's also the Dodge Dart which is a 4-door Abarth with a muffler.
